For its twentieth anniversary, TRAVELER'S Company has shrunk its notebook to card size, 110 by 75 millimetres in a cowhide leather cover, and sold it as a ready-to-use set. The premise is a notebook that is always carried because it also does the jobs of a wallet, a card case and a small pouch, so the habit of writing things down by hand survives in pockets that no longer have room for a separate book. It made the cut because the set is complete in a way anniversary editions often are not. Inside the box are the leather cover in black, MD Paper notebook refills in white and cream, a navy cotton zipper case, a kraft paper folder, connecting rubber bands and a spare red band, all packed in a cotton bag. Set up with the zipper case and folder in place, the cover holds cards, folded notes and small essentials alongside the paper, and the refills are standard TRAVELER'S practice: replaceable, inexpensive and good to write on. The size will not suit long-form journaling, and it is not trying to. It suits capture, lists, overheard details and the kind of travel notes that otherwise end up lost in a phone. The US store price is US$98, limited to one per order, and at this check the set was sold out with a restock stated for the end of December. Verdict: A small, complete and genuinely useful anniversary piece, worth waiting for the restock rather than paying a resale premium
