The Leica SL3-P is the most complete camera yet in the SL-System, and the easiest way to read it is as the professional's version of the SL3 formula: a 44 megapixel full-frame sensor instead of 60, chosen for speed and balance, in a body stripped of the red Leica logo and finished with black control elements. It is a deliberately understated camera from a company that rarely does understated.
It made the cut because the specification is a working photographer's list rather than a flagship arms race. The BSI CMOS sensor delivers 44 megapixels, 26 megapixel and 176 megapixel options through its multishot and resolution modes, with up to 14 stops of dynamic range. A hybrid autofocus system with 819 phase-detection points and machine learning subject recognition shoots at up to 40 frames per second, and video runs to 8K open gate at 30p, 6K at 60p and 4K at 120p, with ProRes and HDMI-RAW options. In-body stabilisation, a 5.76 million dot OLED viewfinder and a tilting 3.2-inch display round out the handling.
The body is all metal, made in Germany and certified to IP54 against dust and splashes, using the L-Mount shared across the L-Mount Alliance. Leica launched it worldwide on June 25, 2026 at US$6,690 for the body, with kit bundles from US$7,790, although the US store showed the body out of stock at the time of checking. Verdict: the SL camera for people who shoot for a living, priced accordingly and none the worse for it.
