The KEF LS LUXE is a wireless hi-fi speaker system that starts from the LS50 lineage and then hands the cabinet to Ross Lovegrove, one of the few industrial designers whose name genuinely changes what a product is. The result keeps KEF's compact bookshelf format but replaces the familiar geometry with a fluid, organic form that is meant to sit in a room as an object, not just a box that makes sound.

It made the cut because the sculpture is not a shell over old technology. Inside is a 12th generation 6.5-inch Uni-Q driver array with a vented aluminium dome tweeter and Metamaterial Absorption Technology, driven by 280 watts for the low and mid frequencies and 100 watts for the highs. KEF also debuts Velocity Control Technology in a wireless speaker, using motion-sensing feedback to reduce distortion and power compression, alongside current-drive amplification designed to keep energy constant and the sound clean. The sculpted, low-diffraction cabinet is itself part of the acoustic design, reducing vibration while allowing maximum internal volume.

The system is fully connected, with HDMI eARC, optical, coaxial and analogue inputs, AirPlay, Chromecast, Bluetooth 5.3 and the major streaming services through KEF Connect, plus an aluminium C3 remote and dual subwoofer outputs. Three finishes are offered: Dusk Titanium, Eclipse Black and Mineral White. KEF US lists the pair at US$3,999.99. Verdict: the most design-led speaker KEF has made, priced like the flagship all-in-one system it intends to be
