The Grand Seiko Elegance SBGW325, nicknamed the Arabic Blue, is a limited edition dress watch built around a detail the brand almost never uses: raised Arabic numerals across the dial. It exists to mark 25 years of Grand Seiko's hand-wound 9S movements, and it looks directly back to the SBGW003 of 2001, the first watch to carry a manually wound 9S calibre and the original home of this numeral layout.
It made the cut because the tribute is more than a reissue. The deep navy dial takes its colour from Japan's traditional indigo dyeing culture, and the silver-toned numerals are boldly raised rather than printed, giving the face a sculpted depth that shifts with the light. The crocodile strap continues the theme, hand-dyed in natural indigo using the hon-ai technique, and a second strap in light grey calf leather is included in the box with quick-release spring bars for easy changes.
The stainless steel case measures 37.3mm across, 11.7mm thick and 44.3mm lug to lug, finished with Zaratsu polishing under a box-shaped sapphire crystal. Inside is the hand-wound Calibre 9S64, with a 72-hour power reserve and a rated accuracy of plus 5 to minus 3 seconds per day, visible through a sapphire case back marked with the limited edition inscription and each watch's individual number. The price is US$5,800, the run is 600 pieces worldwide, and sales are restricted to Grand Seiko Boutiques from October 2026. Verdict: a small, quiet watch with a genuinely unusual dial, and one of the most collectible hand-wound Grand Seikos in years
