The RIMOWA x Faber-Castell Artist Case is a limited edition aluminium case made in RIMOWA's Cologne factory, built to carry a complete drawing kit rather than clothes. It marks 265 years of Faber-Castell, the German pencil maker founded in 1761, and it uses RIMOWA's grooved anodised aluminium, high-gloss Classic corners, TSA-approved locks and a leather carry handle finished in Faber-Castell's signature green. This is an artefact piece, covered here as a design object, not a tested travel case. It made the cut because both halves of the collaboration do real work. Inside, a two-level tray system opens to 120 Polychromos colour pencils, Faber-Castell's oil-based artist pencils known for high pigment and smudge resistance, plus custom grooved 2B Grip graphite pencils shaped to echo the RIMOWA grooves, a platinum-plated sharpener and eraser from the Graf von Faber-Castell line, and a colour manual with drawing techniques. Nothing in the kit is a token miniature. RIMOWA lists the case at EUR 2,400, with US launch pricing reported at $3,100, measuring 35 by 67 by 8 cm and weighing 6.8 kg, with a two-year guarantee. It launched on September 17, 2026 through RIMOWA stores and online and select Faber-Castell stores in Europe, and the RIMOWA store checked for this piece showed it out of stock. Verdict: priced as a collector's object and currently sold out in that store, which is exactly what it was designed to be.
