Close to Heart is a chair built from extruded aluminium profiles, made in Denmark by Muuto with Copenhagen studio Spacon for Muuto's twentieth anniversary. From a distance it reads as a disciplined architectural system, all repetition and precision. Up close, each profile resolves into a heart, formed by two soft curves meeting a sharper angle, repeated through the structure until the motif becomes the construction itself. It made the cut because the idea survives its own cuteness. The heart is not applied decoration or a cut-out; it is the cross-section of the material doing the structural work, so the sentiment and the engineering are the same thing. Spacon describes the intent as balancing heart and mind, a system that learns to feel, and Muuto frames the piece within its anniversary theme of new perspectives rather than nostalgia, which explains why the anniversary produced a new form instead of a reissue. The aluminium is supplied with Hydro involvement noted in anniversary coverage, and the chair's rhythm of repeated profiles is designed to work singly or in a row, where the pattern becomes more pronounced. Production is a numbered edition of 150 pieces, released first during 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen and then through selected drops throughout 2026, at a reported list price of EUR 995\. Verdict: A collectible with a real idea inside it, priced like furniture and allocated like a limited edition, because it is both.
