The Midsummer Coupé is the fixed-head evolution of the Midsummer barchetta Morgan revealed in 2024, and it exists because one client asked for it. After the open car appeared, that client proposed a coupé version, Morgan's designers and engineers took the idea further than a roof, and the strength of the result brought in eight more commissions. The prototype Morgan calls the artists' proof sets the reference, and it will join the Louwman Collection in The Hague once its debut duties are done. The design work was done with Pininfarina, continuing the partnership from the barchetta, and the car carries Pininfarina's Fuoriserie mark, reserved for work outside normal series production. It made the cut because the construction is the story. The body centre is hand-formed from flat aluminium sheet on English wheels, and that skin is not decoration: it is a stressed part of the structure, joined with TIG welding and double-countersunk rivets, checked against CAD by laser measurement as it is built. Billet-machined aluminium A-pillars and bonded structural glazing let the roof carry load, and the finished coupé weighs only about 2.5 percent more than a Supersport fitted with a hardtop. Underneath sits Morgan's CXV-generation bonded aluminium platform, built around the BMW B58 powertrain used in the Supersport 400, and inside there is extensive teak, a glazed canopy, Morgan's most intricate 19-inch forged wheels outside, and room for fitted luggage. There is no public price, because this is a closed commissioning programme of nine cars, each specified one-to-one with its owner. The verdict: coachbuilding done the slow way, and all the better for it.
