This capsule is what happens when Junya Watanabe is given the run of an alpine archive instead of a mood board. Mammut, the Swiss mountain brand founded on rope making in 1862, invited the eYe JUNYA WATANABE MAN label to work directly from decades of its own product development, and Watanabe rebuilt what he found as contemporary menswear. The result is seven pieces: six jackets and one backpack, launched globally on September 24, 2026, with early access for Mammut loyalty members from September 21\. It made the cut because the source material stays visible in the finished clothes. The headline piece is a Ventile jacket in weatherproof cotton with a detachable hood, a high collar and the pocket architecture of a working mountain shell. Elsewhere there is insulated outerwear carrying Watanabe's signature patchwork construction, and a down piece built around eiderdown, one of the rarest insulations in clothing, which Mammut presents as the collection's luxury statement. The backpack keeps the mountaineering references literal, with a rope-inspired handle and a Mammut mascot clipped on with a climbing carabiner. Mammut is honest about the intent: these pieces are designed for modern daily life rather than purely technical mountain use, with the alpine DNA carried in materials and detail. Pricing is per piece; on Mammut's own Swiss store the Ventile Jacket is CHF 1,380 and was shown out of stock at check, so availability is already thin. The verdict: a fashion collaboration that starts from real equipment, and reads that way
